For children who are dyslexic, it is very important to teach them all of the sounds and rules in a very structured, cumulative manner (this is known as the Orton-Gillingham approach). One of our phonics rules (in the English language) is when the letter c has the /s/ sound. This only happens when the letter c is followed by an e, i or y.

When reading a word, such as "accelerate", it is important to know that the first c says /k/, but the second c says /s/. Students should be taught to always take note of any letter that follows a c.

This app will give a brief lesson on this rule, with a quiz to follow, and then offer three activities regarding this rule.
